hi john,

Just wanted to touch base from my Android phone. I've now expanded my dalmas collection by adding your short story collection, and all my copies of your books are in new condition. They are great reading, and I hope you are doing well.

John, your novels have had a real impact on my life. We have never met and likely never will, but your story telling has affected me greatly. You have been one of the men that have helped guide me. Thank you.

Dear John,

I have been reading your books for years but have not for the last few. Decided to look you up on Wikipedia and though it found your home page. Nice job. Keep writing. You are appreciated out here in the world for your brilliant style and story telling. Happy I got to meet you years ago at I think Norwescon.

Best regards,

Joe

Thanks for one of the most enjoyable thought-provoking books I've ever read. (The Reality Matrix). I re-read this whenever I feel like clearing away some cobwebs and start poking into the corners of the universe.

Laying in my bath here in Yokohama, my mind drifting, I thought of my Northern Minnesota river land and how you once (twenty years ago) wrote me a nice letter, telling me about your experiences with the land - and that you knew of a family named Shadley who lived across the river - and how the man of the house had very bad teeth and left the wife and kids alone there most of the winter while he worked as a logger.

I still own the land, but only get there once a year to hug a tree or two.

Very glad to hear you are still breathing and producing.

Maybe I can help with info for Tea River. I'd certainly like to hook up again and hear more about your memories of the place.

4. philosophy of mind - The branch of philosophy that is concerned with the nature of mental phenomena in general and the role of consciousness, sensation, perception, concepts, action, reasoning, intention, belief, memory, etc. in particular. Standard problems include those of free will, personal identity, mind-body problem, other minds, computationalism, etc.

The philosophers of mind deal with metaphysics as it is concerned with the nature of mental phenomena, how mental phenomena are related to natural phenomena, and philosophical psychology broadly construed. Philosophy of psychology is sometimes considered as a subfield of philosophy of mind. However it is, perhaps, more closely related to philosophy of science.

While the great philosophical distinction between mind and body in western thought can be traced to the Greeks, it is to the seminal work of René Descartes.

The history of philosophizing about the relation of body and mind since Descartes is the history of attempts to escape the Cartesian impasse. Early maneuvers of this sort, such as those of Malebranche, Spinoza, Leibniz, and the French materialists La Mettrie and Cabanis, were formulated in the context of metaphysics, in direct response to Cartesian dualism. Later views which arose in the 19th century needed to reconcile evidence from studies on the localization of cerebral function and on functional nervous disorders with prevailing theory in biology and psychology. These discussions reflected the newly accepted view that the brain serves as the organ of mind. Although these theories of mind/brain relations -- epiphenomenalism, interactionism, dual-aspect monism, and mind-stuff theory -- were formulated in the context of science, they too were oriented toward circumventing the Cartesian impasse.

Sir,

I just read the piece written re: Egolfs V. Bakuzis. I was not one of his students (Vilis Kurmis was an Advisor for a year), but one of my friends was working under he for her M.S., on his never-ending analysis of synecological coordinates.

At any rate, I read your treatise with great interest... I am a full-blood Finn, and read with great interest of the exploits of those exposed to the travails of WWII, since many of us of Euro heritage have family histories marked by those conflicts, those histories.

Dr. Bakuzis was endeared to we, as students, for his tenacity, his work ethic. As said, I did not know him personally, but in my MS days, I found all staff to be that much more personable, down to earth, and real.

I greatly appreciate your writing.

I came across 'The Yngling', (I believe it was in Analog Magazine, and I also read 'But Mainly by Cunning'.

I cannot remember coming across any of your other books, but you can imagine that I still remember your name and the names of the stories. That was close to 40 years.

Congratulations to a great writer.

John,

I am so sorry for your loss. There are no words. If it helps even a little, be assured there are people you've touched and inspired over the years of your adventurous life who think of you often. I see Lisa Pirkkala has dropped in...perhaps other members of our old Word Weavers writing group in Spokane will drop in as well, if they haven't already. If you need anything at all, we are all here.

p.s.

I used an ellipsis just to get your goat...

Hi John, Gledelig Jul...oops wrong language from your fellow Finn...! Cool site (I like your eye - ah, the great all-seeing eyeball of the universe scrutinizes us all, both the living and the dead! And at first I thought I was looking at a different writer (the beard.) Very interested in your futuristic saga. Saw the 3-D Beowulf and some of it spoken in the old verse, go see if you can. Picked up Deby's book recently, good stuff. Anyway, first time on your site. Will write again soon.

Hi John - I really enjoyed reading your bio. You've had a life filled with varied, interesting and educational experiences, and it seems that you've made the most of them!

Earlier in my life I was always fascinated by science fiction and read many books (unfortunately didn't come across yours). But at age 40, life became stranger than science fiction, so I stopped reading it.

I didn't realize that you and your wife, Gail, live in Ohio. Where do you live in Ohio? I live near Cleveland. I haven't had the pleasure of meeting many Michael students, except the ones I introduced to Michael. Perhaps you would consider getting together at some point in the future if time and distance permit?

I don't know anyone else who has been channeled as an old soul (except for Sarah Chambers - and she transited). . .

Anyway, congratulations on your new site!
